In celebration of the summer solstice, our McHarg Center for Urbanism and Ecology is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Professor Ian McHarg’s publication of Design With Nature. This is landscape architecture’s most important manifesto, advocating for intelligent planning and designing the landscapes upon which we depend before they are uninhabitable. Starting with a symposium today and tomorrow, Design with Nature Now also includes corresponding exhibits: Design With Nature Now, a global survey of ecological design in the 21st century in the Meyerson Galleries, Ian McHarg: The House We Live In, at the Architectural Archives, and Laurel McSherry: A Book of Days, meditations on place and time in McHarg’s Scotland at the Arthur Ross Gallery. We’re especially amused at the BEES that are stuck around inside and outside of the building...because who can’t live without bees??
