The Incubation Series is a student-run program where history of art students curate exhibitions that feature work by PennDesign MFA students. Pretty cool, right?! The most recent exhibition was at Seraphin Gallery and featured the work of Lauren Altman, Erlin Geffrard, Jiayi Liu and Heryk Tomassini. These four artists' work are very different but the curators, Jessica Hough and Isabelle Lynch, found common thread between their use of materials: unraveled sweaters, folded photographs, concrete blocks and coffee grounds. The exhibition title is Loose Ends and it considers the process of making something new with discarded materials.
The Incubation Series was founded by graduate students from both PennDesign and the School of Arts and Sciences who realized that they could learn and benefit from each other. This student-run program is co-funded by the History of Art’s Sachs Contemporary Art Fund and by a grant from Penn’s office of the Provost. Loose Ends is the program’s eighth exhibition since its start in 2015.
