June is Rivers Month so we are celebrating the Schuylkill (which means ‘hidden river’ and is pronounced skoo-kill). The river is 135 miles long and runs throughout Pennsylvania. The river is rich in history, which you can read more about here. One of my favorite parts of the river in Philadelphia is Schuylkill Banks, which is a 25-mile-long paved trail along the river that is perfect for walking, running, biking, and my personal favorite - roller skating! On top of being loads of fun, it is also a beautiful trail with amazing views of the city and of course, river. It’s picture-perfect, and speaking of pictures, in celebration of Rivers Month, the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center is launching a photo contest. Send them your best images that capture the ebb and flow of water in our world from Philadelphia’s wide, winding, and weathered rivers and creeks to the rain that replenishes them. You can find more info and submit your photo here.
