The first ever Keith L. and Katherine S. Sachs Endowed Visiting Professor, Wael Shawky, started his work with the School of Design as a student in our Master of Fine Arts program from which he graduated in 2001. This year, Shawky's works have been featured in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The exhibition, Wael Shawky: Cabaret Crusades, was inspired by Lebanese historian Amin Maalouf's essay The Crusades Through Arab Eyes, and is the third and final segment in the artist's trilogy depicting the Crusades. Opened on January 31, 2015, the exhibition will close at the end of this month, so if you have the time for a trip to New York before your summer ends or you are already in the area, we encourage you to take the time to experience this PennDesign professor's works in person at MoMa.
