Walking to Penn over the South Street Bridge, you can see the latest installment of the Schuylkill River Trail. The trail runs from below South Street on up to the Art Museum and further north, about 10 miles. The land between the railroad tracks and the river becomes too narrow for a walkway, so a “boardwalk” was built right in the river parallel to the eastern shore of the river. The trail is used by rollerbladers, cyclists, joggers, and walkers.
