Brent Leggs: Out of Culture and Preservation, a Racial and Economic Justice Movement
As a member of the National Council for Preservation Education'(NCPE), the Stuart Weitzman Graduate Program in Historic Preservation would like to share the details of this virtual lecture by Brent Leggs, the Executive Director of the National Trust’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund and author of Preserving African American Historic Places.
On October 9, Leggs will speak on the broad topics of: challenges facing African American cultural sites in the United States; how to expand awareness of such sites; and the role historic preservation plays in both supporting and combating widespread structural racism. The webinar is free and open to the public; attendees must register.
The goal in this endeavor is to offer some timely, relevant, engaging course content as faculty members may be pivoting to an online (or hybrid) curriculum for the Fall, as well as to inform and shape a deeper understanding of the topics for students of preservation. A recording will be published in the days following the lecture, posted to the NCPE website, and YouTube channel.
