Faculty, Staff and Students,
Yesterday later afternoon O365 accounts experienced mail delivery issues due to a problem with Proofpoint (a third party vendor that is used to verify and check messages for malicious content). Below is more detailed information regarding the incident. Messages will need to be resent for those that received bounce back errors.

Around 4:00 PM yesterday, December 2, 2021, our email sanitation provider Proofpoint began experiencing issues across their global platform. These issues caused a small percentage of email to Penn users to be rejected with an error message "host unknown." The errors were not limited to a specific sender or Penn recipient, but rather to a small portion of the total email being delivered at the time. The vendor resolved their issues impacting Penn around 6:15 PM, and the final resolution to the global problem was at 7:20 PM.
Any time this issue occurred, the sender would have received a bounce-back message indicating the email was not delivered. The sender will need to resend their message to the intended recipient. This includes messages sent from one PennO365 user to another PennO365 user.
