Faculty, Staff and Students,
Beginning on January 10, 2022, the University will be making changes to the storage capacity granted to individuals using Penn+Box. Penn+Box was brought on to the University as a file collaboration service, but over time has seen exponential growth by those using it as a means for data storage and backups. In efforts to provide a useful common-good collaboration service to campus at a reasonable cost, a 100 GB limit will be placed on new and existing individual accounts. This change will occur in phases, beginning with users with the smallest footprint. The intention of this change is to reduce the footprint that personal data storage and backups have on the Penn+Box service.
The University understands that this change will impact a fair number of users who are currently storing more than 100 GB on their Penn+Box account. There will be no disruption at this time to users who are currently over the new limit.
In the coming months, ISC will be working with Weitzman IT on accounts that have a greater storage need to move files and backups to other cloud storage services. We will share more information about our specific plans as we move forward.
At this time we would also like to remind users that all Weitzman faculty, staff and students have a 1 TB quota in their Microsoft One Drive Cloud storage that is part of your O365 account suite. If you are not familiar with One Drive, please see the O365 information here.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at ithelp@design.upenn.edu.
