Good morning,
I am following up with our Weitzman users concerning a global issue, not specific to Penn affecting windows systems running CrowdStrike, the security tool installed on all university endpoints.
CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by the defect found in an update for windows hosts. Keep in mind, this is not a security incident or cyberattack.
We are working to identify the next steps in remediation and will reach back out once we have identified them. For status updates, please check ISC’s status page; ISC Service Status (upenn.edu)
What does this mean if you are onsite in Meyerson Hall or other Weitzman buildings today? If you are on a windows laptop, we have found multiple restarting of the machine can make the blue screen go away and wifi restored. If you are working from a tower/desktop, multiple restarts help the blue screen but network connection is not restored. This is the case in our computer labs and print stations. With the network outage, Printing through the network is not supported. We are aware that there is an Architecture final today. I will be making available USB printing on the MEYS-PW4000-A and PW4000-B to accommodate printing off the network.
To print, prepare your files as usual, format your work and size the file. Use a USB to plug in on the side of the print queue and select “Print from USB”
I hope that this printing work around helps the students here today. Please email us at ithelp@design.upenn.edu with any follow-up questions.
Thank you,
Kaitlin
