We are deeply grieved to learn of the passing of our longtime colleague and friend Muscoe Martin, who passed away December 28th after a long illness.
Muscoe was a true pioneer in green building, and our students were lucky to have him as a teacher and mentor as a member of our faculty in the Department of Architecture for 19 years. He inspired an entire new generation of architects to sustainable design, initiating many to the first concepts of green building, from biomimicry to LEED certification—-principles which he helped establish—well before it became popular to do so. An active member of every community he served, he worked extensively with U.S. Green Building Council and the AIA Committee on the Environment, setting the stage for new, higher standards for the built environment. He worked tirelessly to champion sustainable design, with just a fraction of his many, many achievements captured in his obituary.
We will miss Muscoe dearly, and our hearts go out to his family at this difficult time. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 10th at 3:00 pm at St. Peter’s Church, 313 Pine Street, Philadelphia, with a closed reception following.
