The Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships serves as the University of Pennsylvania's information hub and primary support office for Penn students and alumni considering applying for major grants and fellowships. CURF aims to demystify these opportunities to help undergraduate and graduate students and alumni determine the most appropriate awards for which to apply. CURF’s searchable Fellowships Directory allows you to search for opportunities based on your student or alumni status. See details of fellowship eligibility and brief descriptions. If you are (or soon will be) an active applicant for any fellowship, please sign up for the CURF Mailing List to receive regular updates on fellowships and related opportunities. Pursuing a graduate or professional degree is an important investment in your future and can also be a significant investment of your time and money. Whether you're living on a budget or relying on external funding, the financial decisions you make during graduate school can have an impact for years to come. Visit the Graduate Funding and Finances page, which provides information and resources to help you identify funding opportunities and make more informed financial decisions as you pursue your degree.
External grants and awards are opportunities offered by private foundations, government agencies, and corporations. Also known as nationally competitive awards or fellowships, receiving external funding opportunities is a way to position yourself as a leader in your field, whether you are just beginning your graduate career, are conducting research and writing, or are close to the end of your degree and exploring career options.
We encourage you to review our lists of highlighted opportunities and to take advantage of the resources below as you prepare to apply for competitive grants and fellowships. Be sure to check our events page and the CURF website for upcoming information sessions and workshops related to fellowships and grants.
