Detroit Tactical Preservation Program
The Detroit Tactical Preservation Program is a partnership between PennPraxis and the City of Detroit's Planning and Development Department that focuses on the partial and incremental reuse of specific spaces within a larger building. This effort also looks to efficiently move sections of buildings into new uses. Quick and swift reuse of buildings will catalyze further development and benefits for the community.
Specially, this project 1) looks into the former Smoken Aces Night Lounge to develop schematic designs for reuse and 2) updates the Historic District Commission guidelines to be more precise and concise so the community can better understand what design changes can be approved by staff. The goal of the Detroit tactical preservation program initiative is to reduce building vacancy rates through the city.
