Dr. Waegel is a researcher specializing in the development of novel techniques for the evaluation of energy usage and greenhouse gas production arising from activities in the built environment. He obtained a BA in Physics from Drew University, an MA and a PhD in Energy Policy from the University of Delaware, and a Masters in Computers and Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering. For more than a decade he has worked at the Center for Environmental Building + Design tackling a wide variety of projects focused on energy analysis, carbon accounting, and sustainability. In particular his interests include using large datasets to formulate new computational methods to derive actionable information from the increasingly large amounts of data being gathered from the built environment, which is currently under utilized, and promoting sustainability and carbon action planning for organizations with the desire to pursue those goals but without the technical capacity to do so. When not involved in research Alex spends his time hiking, camping, photographing wildlife and tending his gardens.
