Dr. Jie (Jay) Zhao is a lecturer in the Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches a graduate level course - Healthy Buildings: Science and Application.
Previously, Jie has worked as Head of Delos Labs and an Executive Vice President at Delos for over 9 years. As the creator of the WELL Building Standard, Delos develops programs and solutions that transform our built environments into vehicles to improve human health, well-being, performance, and resilience. Jie led the global research effort for advancing science and innovation in the company.
His research focuses on Human-building Interactions, including healthy buildings, total building performance, occupant behavior in buildings, sensing and controls in buildings, health, comfort, and productivity of building occupants, as well as building energy efficiency and sustainability. He has published 20+ academic articles and serves as reviewers for 10+ top tier academic journals and conferences in the building science field. He frequently contributes to public media as subject matter experts in healthy buildings, such as Wall Street Journal, CBS News, Forbes and Money. Jie received his PhD in Building Performance and Diagnostics from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
