Hometown: Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Education Background: Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESS) and Studio Art
How did you get interested in your field?
I actually didn’t find out about this field until about a year ago when one of my old professors from undergrad mentioned it in one of our catch-up zoom meetings. He thought it would be a great mix of my interests in environmental science and art.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in ESS from Allegheny College, I entered the workforce for a few years as a research and development technician in Aluminum Engineering at Alcoa before deciding to go back to school.
Why did you choose Penn?
I applied to three schools. Originally Penn wasn’t even on my list because I thought it was a reach, but a friend of mine who is in the MArch program convinced me to apply. When I got in, I came to an admitted students open house event and knew then and there that I was going to Penn.
What has been your favorite class so far?
I haven’t been in classes for very long, but so far, I really enjoy my History and Theory class.
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
The Clark Park farmers market and public transit!
What kinds of activities and/or organizations are you involved in?
I am the director of sustainability in the student council this year as well as a laser printer operator in the FabLab I am also trying to get more involved in the Penn farm.
What are your career ambitions?
I would love to work in a professional Landscape Architecture firm. I’m still figuring out which firm that might be, but I’m hopeful that maybe I’ll have an opportunity to work in a firm abroad.
