How did you get interested in your field?
I became interested in architecture because of the impact we make. Architecture is all about understanding people through communication and problem solving. I want to be the architect that can say I positively add and help people through my designs.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
I studied Architectural Design with a minor in Engineering Innovation at the University of Florida. My architecture school taught me to design based on the Bauhaus principles, such as experimenting with modeling how we prioritize space and materials and breaking down the barriers between the arts, crafts, and the architecture industry. My engineering innovation minor taught me how to professionally work with other engineering disciplines and utilize my knowledge of the architecture industry to study and develop engineering-focused innovations.
Why did you choose Penn?
I chose Penn for their unique and open design asthetics. They strive for experimental architectural design strategies that focus on 3D fabrication while still pushing for practical ingenuity. I am extremely interested in the mathematics and research in structural and material innovation in architecture, and professionally, I want to learn more about the architecture industry standards and work towards gaining licensure.
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
The activities! There are tons of farmers markets, places to eat, and stunning views. My favorite activity I randomly came across was the art exhibition they held at Rittenhouse Square!
