Graduate Group Chair, Franca Trubiano was awarded the 2024 (LAF) DEB MITCHELL RESEARCH GRANT, “Ethically Sourcing the Ground_ Investigating Landscape Architects’ Responsibility in Specifying Forced-Labor-Free Materials” alongsideco-principal investigators, MNLA. This award by the Landscape Architecture Foundation, investigates how landscape architects can use project specifications and procurement processes to address critical issues of fair labor practices, material disclosures, supply source mapping, and the avoidance of global hotspots for forced labor in the material supply chain of building materials. Her research on forced labor was the subject of conference presentations and publications this spring at the EAAE/ARCC 2024 Conference, “Architecture into The Unknown,” in Aarhus, Denmark, and the “Production Studies International Conference” in Newcastle, UK.
