Doctoral Student in City & Regional Planning Jasmine Siyu Wu received the Penn Prize for Excellence in Teaching by Graduate Students. Jasmine has served as a Graduate Teaching Fellow and a Teaching Assistant for a range of courses and professors at Weitzman School: Transportation Planning Methods taught by Professor and Department Chair Megan Ryerson; Introduction to City and Regional Planning: History, Theory, and Contemporary Practice taught by Associate Professor Domenic Vitiello; Planning by Numbers taught by Assistant Professor Xiaoxia (Summer) Dong; and Healthy People/Healthy Places taught by Assistant Professor Jamaal Green.
Jasmine was presented the award by Assistant Professor Xiaoxia (Summer) Dong at the Penn Prize for Excellence in Graduate Teaching Reception on April 23, hosted at the Graduate Student Center. Several City Planning faculty members and friends joined Jasmine to celebrate her accomplishment, including each professor Jasmine assisted as a Graduate Teaching Fellow or Teaching Assistant, Professor and City Planning Graduate Group Chair Eugenie Birch, doctoral student Hui Tian, and MCP student Viva Wan.
The Penn Prize for Excellence in Teaching by Graduate Students recognizes outstanding teaching by graduate students across the University of Pennsylvania. Nominations are solicited directly from undergraduate and graduate students university-wide. A selection committee of faculty members, student representatives, and former Penn Prize recipients reviews nominees’ teaching statements, institutional student evaluations, and faculty letters of recommendation to identify 10 awardees each year.
