Why did you choose Weitzman?
I chose Weitzman for its welcoming and supportive faculty and staff. Even before I applied, they took the time to engage with me, making me feel valued as an individual. That support has continued, providing mentorship and opportunities that have helped me grow academically and professionally.
Can you give one tip on how to make the transition into grad school?
Write down your goals and why you chose this program. Graduate school is challenging, and there will be moments when you feel like giving up or doubting yourself. Having your goals and motivations written down can remind you why you pursued this program and inspire you to keep moving forward.
Share your favorite project you have worked on since coming to Weitzman.
Cultural Roots: Intergenerational Learning Center
Spring 2024
Critic: Professor Eduardo Rega
A: Amy Koenig
The Cultural Roots: Intergenerational Learning Center in Philadelphia’s Chinatown fuses Chinese and American architecture to create a dynamic space for cultural exchange. Visitors experience the resilience of Chinatown’s seniors through interactive displays and audio stories. At the same time, senior residents teach youth to grow water medicinal herbs for minor ailments, play mahjong, and share traditions—with local workshops on nutrition and herbal medicine, further fostering community advocacy and collaboration. This project is my favorite for its ability to spark meaningful dialogue on cultural preservation.
