Neri&Hu, the design and research office co-founded by next chair of the Architecture Department Rossana Hu, with her partner Lyndon Neri, has been awarded "Firm of the Year" by Architizer A+ Awards 2023. Founded in 2004, NHDRO (Neri&Hu Design and Research Office) is a multi-disciplinary architectural design practice based in Shanghai, China. NHDRO works internationally providing architecture, interior, master planning, graphic, and product design services. Currently working on projects in seven countries, NHDRO is composed of multi-cultural staff who speak over 20 different languages. The diversity of the team reinforces a core vision for the practice: to respond to a global worldview incorporating overlapping design disciplines for a new paradigm in architecture. NHDRO’s location is purposeful. With Shanghai considered a new global frontier, NHDRO is in the center of this contemporary chaos. The city’s cultural, urban, and historic contexts function as a point of departure for the architectural explorations involved in every project. Because new sets of contemporary problems relating to buildings now extend beyond traditional architecture, the practice challenges traditional boundaries of architecture to include other complementary disciplines.
The award ceremony took place at the iconic Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris on October 20, celebrating with more than 350 leading architects and designers from around the globe. Lyndon Neri, Founding Partner of Neri&Hu, accepted the Firm of the Year Award on behalf of the team, "it is truly an honor to be given this award, and we do not take lightly the responsibility bestowed upon us with this recognition. We also want to take this opportunity to encourage other creatives in Asia to believe in their voices, be it individual or as a collective.”
Neri&Hu's Blue Bottle Zhang Yuan Cafè was a finalist in the Commercial Interiors under 25,000 square feet Category.
