I am incredibly grateful to have attended the 2024 NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects) Conference with two other Weitzman student, David Owe and Nadine Nashef. Together, we proudly represented the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design.
This year’s conference, held in Baltimore, Maryland, brought together a community of architects, designers, and students. One of the highlights was the Barbara G. Laurie Student Design Competition, where over 45 schools showcased inspiring creativity and thoughtful designs. Seeing such dedication firsthand was energizing. Penn did not join the competition this year but watch us in the future!
Beyond the competition, the conference offered a packed schedule of keynotes, panels, and networking opportunities. From various talks, the local chapter reception, crab feast, casual chats, student vs professional basketball games, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones, every moment was filled with learning and connection.
The energy throughout the conference was contagious. A special thanks to our main sponsors, the architecture department, for making this experience possible, and to PhilaNOMA for their support. I am already looking forward to joining the student competition next year and continuing to be a part of this amazing organization.
