Students partnered with East Cleveland leader and local community-based organization Burten Bell Carr Development, Inc (BBC) to envision a new Afrofuturist arts and culture district named the Buckeye Empowerment, Stewardship, and Enterprise District (BESE). BBC describes its vision for the district as a “vibrant and innovative hub that seamlessly blends creativity and cutting-edge technology to foster a dynamic community." BBC adds, "This district aims to serve as a catalyst for economic growth, cultural enrichment, and technological advancements, creating a unique space where art and technology converge to inspire and transform.” Students created a district-wide vision addressing economic development, streetscapes, mobility, and land use plus site plans for three of BBC’s buildings. This plan sees Buckeye Road as a beacon of opportunity, grounded in community ownership, stewardship, and connection, ensuring that revitalization strengthens, not displaces, those who call Buckeye home. Each site introduces a unique arrangement of programs that meet everyday needs while fostering creativity and connection, with all playing integral roles in the BESE District Plan.
