Weitzman Style Guide & Reference Tools

Overview and Background

In February of 2019, the University of Pennsylvania named its School of Design for award-winning designer and footwear icon Stuart Weitzman, Wharton Class of 1963, in recognition of both his ongoing philanthropic support of the University and his active engagement in its academic activities. The new name, the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design, reflects Weitzman’s enduring influence in the world of design and his extraordinary support of the School. (Read the official announcement at UPenn.edu.) In August of 2019, the Weitzman School introduced a new visual identity to convey the new name and our renewed sense of purpose.

This online guide was established to provide guidance to staff and faculty members on the appropriate steps to take to update official digital and printed materials to reflect the School's new name and identity.

Style Guides

As of February 22, 2019, the “PennDesign” name was officially retired. The online Style Guide describes how to refer to the School in writing.

Logos

On August 9, 2019, the PennDesign logo was officially retired. You'll find the Weitzman logo in Penn Box.

  • There are various file formats for different projects, but the color JPEG is the most widely used. CMYK versions are for print only, RGB are for web/digital only.

  • It's not recommended that the logo be used in email signatures.

  • Use of the Weitzman logo in brochures, books, and other printed publications requires approval by the Office of Communications (Michael Grant or John Caperton).

  • Use of the Weitzman logo by funders, sponsors, vendors, community partners and other third parties requires approval by the Office of Communications.

  • Use of the Weitzman logo on promotional items like notebooks or t-shirts requires approval by the Office of Communications.

  • As you field requests for the logo from faculty or students, please direct them to the Office of Communications. Use of the School logo is governed by a set of guidelines that are documented in the Student Handbook. Students should not use the Weitzman logo on promotional materials for student initiatives unless the School is a sponsor/supporter and identified as such.

  • Don't use the logo files to create stationery.
