On May 11th, Bill Whitaker, Curator of the Architectural Archives, co-led a tour of the Swarthmore College campus in conjunction with Docomomo. The tour featured a Vincent Kling-designed laboratory which now forms part of a lively contemporary Unified Science Center; the Lang Music Building, a Brutalist performance hall designed by Mitchell/Giurgola; and the Tarble Student Center, a Gothic structure with interior renovations by Venturi Scott Brown. The tour included a conversation with John Lawson, pictured here, who served as the architect on both Lang and Tarble. Docomomo's mission is identify, document, and advocate for significant examples of modernist architecture, landscape, and urban design.
