Hill College House, designed by Eero Saarinen, opened in 1958 as Penn’s first women’s dormitory. Protected by a “moat” and hand-crafted brick facade, the interior featured a stunning, multi-level interior atrium with gathering spaces inspired by Mediterranean villages. More than 50 years later, this campus landmark has been renewed to suit 21st century student lifestyles and campus commitments to sustainable operations, while retaining Saarinen’s craft and detail.
