The Philadelphia Chapter of Women in Transportation honored Amtrak Infrastructure Planning Manager Natalie Shieh (MCP’09) as its “Woman of the Year.” The award honors a woman who is an outstanding role model and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation.
City and Regional Planning Student Shruthi Arvind and her team took second place at the Geneva Challenge, organized by the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies to tackle the challenges of urbanism. Their project CityProgress: Web Portal for Active Data Sharing, Dissemination and Analysis for Disaster Risk Reduction addresses the need to mainstream disaster risk reduction in urban planning processes across the world.
Associate Professor of Urban Design Stefan Al is one of Urban Design Forum’s 2016 Fellows. Fellows are designers, planners, developers, public officials and scholars building dynamic and resilient cities around the world.
Three PennDesign faculty members were awarded Fels Interdisciplinary Grants through the Fels Policy Research Initiative in the School of Arts & Sciences at Penn. Professor and Chair of City and Regional Planning John Landis and Assistant Professor of City and Regional Planning Vincent Reina will join economics and sociology faculty to identify and develop new priorities for the next generation of housing policy in the U.S. Additionally, Associate Professor of City and Regional Planning Amy Hillier will work on researching and informing policies relating to LGBTQ youth and families.
