Things are looking a little different at Meyerson Hall these days. If you enter off 34th and Walnut Streets you’ll be greeted by an updated entrance complete with new signage, reclaimed wooden benches and a display that pays homage to Louis Kahn.
PennDesign employed the architecture firm Erdy McHenry Architecture for the renovation project that was completed in mid-November 2014.
As described by Scott Erdy, “the new north entry for Meyerson Hall is an interim project that will transform one of the building’s most-visible entries. A new stainless steel canopy and vertical perforated scrim will better mark the north entry for visitors from the north and will provide cover adjacent to the entry.”
The transformation includes the relocation of the building’s refuse storage to a new trash corral to the north and the landscaping of the eastern edge along the 34th street.
Also included is new bench seating as both an enhancement to the current outdoor food service carts and as an enhancement to pedestrian safety.
