Two teams of Penn students received honorable mentions in the highly competitive 2020 Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Hines Student Competition. The students represented Weitzman’s architecture, city and regional planning, historic preservation, and landscape architecture departments, along with the Wharton School.
Each year, ULI selects a real-world large-scale site for which teams create a design and development program. This year’s site is a six-block area north of downtown Miami, which is physically cut in half by a rail line and adjacent to three distinct and historic neighborhoods, each with a rich cultural history.
Team 383: Tobin Stuff (city and regional planning), Yishan Shang (landscape architecture), Francisco Ospina (landscape architecture), Amanda Stevens (city and regional planning / historic preservation), and Cindy Li (Wharton School).
Team 401: Alex Jackson (architecture), Brian Rawn (Wharton School), Margo Sulmont (Wharton School), Olivia Xu (landscape architecture), and Lily Cheng (city and regional planning).
On Thursday, March 19, 7:00–8:30pm, there will be a ULI Pin-Up Celebration and Networking Event for teams from Penn and Temple University.
The ULI Student Competition is an opportunity for multi-disciplinary student teams to work to solve development and design challenges. The competition usually takes place mid-January during a two-week period. Teams are made up of five students, representing at least three different disciplines. Learn more on the ULI website.
