Charles Starks is currently finishing the draft of his dissertation, which examines how historic downtown "Chinatowns" have become a distinctive type of living, evolving heritage district in many major cities of Asia and the Americas since the 1970s, using the Chinatowns of Singapore and Vancouver as archetypal case studies. He spent last summer completing his fieldwork in Singapore.
