In a new paper titled "Women in Transport Geography: Gender differences in research topics" in the Journal of Transport Geography, Associate Professor and Master of Urban Spatial Analytics (MUSA) Director Elizabeth Delmelle, alongside Weitzman School of Design alums Ann Zhang (MCP'24, MUSA'24) and Sofia Fasullo (MCP'24, MUSA'24), investigate how gender shapes the research landscape of transport geography. Drawing on text analysis of over 2,600 articles published since 1993, the team found that female-led research is more likely to focus on mobility justice, youth travel, and gender disparities, contrasting with the field’s traditionally technical and efficiency-driven roots. The project, developed as part of the students’ MUSA Practicum, highlights how increasing diversity among scholars can help broaden the intellectual and societal impact of the discipline.
