R.I.P. Mary Ellen Mark

FA'62, ASC'64, Hon'94

We received the sad news that Mary Ellen Mark, FA'62, ASC'64, Hon'94 passed away in New York City on Monday. The extraordinarily talented photographer was known for taking on difficult subjects in a realistic yet humane style, capturing lepers, circus performers, prostitutes and addicts — those who she once said “didn’t have the best breaks in life.”

She was honored with Penn’s Creative Spirit Award in 2013. Read more about Mark’s inspiring life and work in the New York Times, visit her website, or revisit Annenberg's interview with her in 2006.
