"Finding Ground" follows the experiences of a New York community impacted by flooding. After a major storm hits, the flood forces an evacuation, and residents are confronted with a difficult decision to stay, and rebuild once again, or engage in the town’s new voluntary buyout program.
Hassan Saleem and Johanna Lawton, co-authors of “Finding Ground,” were interviewed by NY1 about the project's origins and goals. In Bonaire over the summer of 2025, the Penn Animation as Research Lab conducted interviews relating to climate inaction at Reef Renewal Bonaire, coral planting practice area.
During the same research trip to Bonaire, the PAR team drew goats at Aletta's Goat Farm. "Kept and feral goats are a powerful cultural symbol of resilience," says Simon Richter, the lab's co-director.
