Weitzman Kicks Off Summer Program with The Fresh Air Fund to Prepare Underserved Youth for Careers in Design

Today the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design announced an important leadership gift from Lori Kanter Tritsch, MArch’85, and her partner, William P. Lauder, W’83, executive chairman and chairman of the Board of Directors of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and Penn Trustee. The generous donation supports PennPraxis Design Fellows to lead an interactive virtual course for 150 Fresh Air Fund youth ages 14-17 in July and August 2020, Fresh Air Everywhere: Virtual Design Studio.

Weitzman School to Lead Development of Conservation Management Plan for Pennsylvania Hospital

The Weitzman School’s PennPraxis and The Center for Architectural Conservation (CAC) will develop a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for the Pennsylvania Hospital, an affiliate of Penn Medicine. Led by Frank Matero, chair of the Graduate Program in Historic Preservation, the CMP will consolidate information on the significance of the site and its historical assets and will be a tool for prioritizing future hospital-preservation efforts.

The University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design welcomes Former Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Leslie S. Richards to the faculty in the Department of City and Regional Planning. Secretary Richards, who received a Master of Regional Planning from Penn in 1993, is the immediate past secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the incoming general manager of Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), the fifth-largest U.S. transit system, which operates across the Delaware Valley.

The McHarg Center Releases Atlas for the Green New Deal

On Tuesday, December 10, the University of Pennsylvania’s Ian L. McHarg Center for Urbanism and Ecology launches The 2100 Project. The first installment of this initiative, published as an Atlas for the Green New Deal, consists of more than 100 visualizations illustrating the projected spatial impacts of climate change and population growth in the United States over the rest of the century.
