William Butterfield Collection (023), Architect, 1814-1900
British architect William Butterfield was among the earliest and best-known proponents of Ruskinian constructional polychromy. A devout member of the Church of England, he completed much of his work under the patronage of the Ecclesiological Society and its supporters. His major works include All Saints, Margaret Street in London and Keble College at Oxford.
The collection documents Butterfield's design for the Temple Reading Room and Art Gallery at the Rugby School, Warwickshire, 1878-1879.
