How do I gain access to the Fab Lab?
To get access to the Fab Lab you must complete the online safety course through Workday. Use this link to access the module in Workday. After doing so it will take about 2 business days for the system to process it and then you’re good to enter the lab! We recommend taking this as soon as you can. This way it’s done and you have the access before you need it. Please note that requests will not be processed over the weekend.
I just finished the Safety course, can I come in?
Unfortunately, no, you can’t. The safety course takes about 2 business days to process and get fully through the system. You have to wait until you are able to swipe into the turnstile to gain access to the shop. Because of this we recommend that you take the safety course as soon as you can, before you need the access so you can come and use the space as soon as the need arises.
How do I gain access to the laser, CNC, and 3D print scheduling software?
First please complete the safety training needed to enter the shop. After doing so, send an email to digifabaccess@design.upenn.edu requesting scheduling software access. This process usually takes about 1 business day. Once it is processed you will receive an email prompting you to set up an account with Appointy. Please note that requests will not be processed over the weekend.
What materials do you sell in the Lab?
For laser cutting we have 1/8” MDF sized at 32inx18in or 32inx12in.
For CNC we have EPS foam ad HDU foam.
For 3D Printing we have a full color resin printer and an ABS printer.
For General shop we do not have any materials for sale. We have a scrap bin you are welcome to look through, lots of hardware, glue, and sandpaper for free, and a resources page for sourcing materials. If you have a material question don’t hesitate to come and ask!
What materials can I use?
Our most used materials are wood, MDF, and foam. If you have another material you would like to use, please reach out to the manager of the respective area you would like to use it in for clarification, we may need to look into it before giving the final okay.

How many CNC files can I submit at once?
You can only have one CNC file in the queue at a time. Once you receive the email letting you know that your piece is ready for pick up you can submit your next file.
