Fall 2024 Important Information for Faculty

Dear Faculty,

Below is useful IT information for this upcoming academic year!

 

Courseware

Canvas - Information about the Learning Management System for Faculty, Staff and TAs (https://infocanvas.upenn.edu/canvas-login/)

-REMINDER:  If you are looking to use this for your Fall 2024 course offering you MUST submit a request to have your Canvas Course created! (Request a new Canvas Site link)

 

Communication

  • O365 Email account: All members of the Weitzman School with an active affiliation (including instructors and lecturers) receive an O365 email account which is used for official communication. For details and access please view this page.
  • All faculty, lecturers and instructors are added to the design-faculty email list.  All official communication from Weitzman will be sent via this email list.
  • Any department-related communication will come directly from the department. If you have any questions, please reach out to your respective department.
  • Classlists:  Information Systems and Computing (ISC) in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar provides the Classlists mailing service for all courses taught in participating schools. Course e-mail lists, or Classlists, provide a quick, convenient, and easy method of communication between instructors and students. When an instructor needs to communicate with their course's students, an email message sent to the Classlist address will be automatically distributed to all registered students of the class. Each Department has access to their respective classlists.

 

Cloud Storage

  • PennBox: Cloud Based collaboration service available to all faculty, staff and students.
  • Microsoft O365 One Drive: Cloud based collaboration service available with O365 accounts.

 

Printing

Small format laser printers and large format plotters are available to all Weitzman users. All details regarding printing, locations and pricing can be found on our Printing webpage.

 

Web Conferencing Solutions

  • All Weitzman faculty, students and staff have access to a University ZOOM account.  You should ONLY be using the university Zoom accounts since these are under FERPA agreements and provide features that are integrated only under the university license.
  • All Weitzman faculty, students and staff also have access to Microsoft Teams accounts.

 

AV Resources

Available AV Equipment in Weitzman Buildings

All Meyerson Studio spaces had preventative maintenance completed earlier this summer to ensure all equipment is functioning properly.

Note: Each Meyerson studio space with a ceiling mounted projector and input panel will have an AV bag at the location with an HDMI cable to be used for the designated studio. Please ensure your students are taking proper care of this equipment.

 

Computer Labs and Central Pool Classrooms

Note: Authentication on ALL Weitzman lab and public computers is with Pennkey credentials!

 

Software

Please visit our Software page for detailed information regarding software.  Detailed lists of software in computer labs are highlighted on individual computer lab sections.

NOTE: Graduate Students are offered a free Adobe subscription for personal devices! Non-graduate students (students enrolled in Weitzman Courses) are able to purchase Adobe at a much-discounted rate! Adobe is available for free in all Weitzman computer labs for student use.  Students will need a free Adobe account in order to use the software in computer labs.

Grammarly -an AI-powered writing assistance tool that aims to improve users' writing quality, efficiency, and confidence is available for ALL faculty.  For more information on how to activate your account please see the Grammarly Pilot User Guide.

 

LinkedIn Learning

The University offers LinkedIn Learning to all Weitzman faculty free of charge. Tutorials range from introductory to advanced level on a range of topics, skills, and software. This is a valuable resource you will have access to while you are actively enrolled at Penn. Take advantage!  

 

Security

Secure Share: Need to send sensitive or confidential information with members of the Penn Community?  Secure Share is a web-based application for secure file exchange available to Penn faculty, staff, and students. Though there should be a limited need to exchange sensitive or confidential information electronically, when members of the Penn community are required to do so, Secure Share provides an easy-to-use mechanism that ensures the safety and privacy of university data.

Sophos Home: Antivirus for personal devices

All faculty are eligible for a free license of Sophos Home to use on personal devices. It checks hard drives, removable media, and email attachments for known computer viruses and removes any that it finds, including macro viruses. It also monitors your computer and notifies you of any infection attempts. Sophos Home is site licensed at Penn and available free of charge to Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Penn community and can be installed on up to 10 devices.
