Thorton Oakley (121), Illustrator, 1881-1953
Thorton Oakley studied architecture at the University of Pennslyvania completting a bachelors (1901) and masters (1902) degrees. After, he studied illustration with Howard Pyle. Oakley became an illustrator and writer for periodicals, including Century, Collier's, Harper's Monthly and Scribner's. He also taught drawing and illustration at the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art.
This collection contains notebook sketches for "On the Five Orders of Architecture".
