Bendiner, Alfred
Alfred Bendiner Collection (091), Architect, 1899-1964
Alfred Bendiner received both a bachelor's (1922 ) and a master's degrees (1927) in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1937, he served as an artist for the University Museum's archeological expedition to Tepe Gawra and Khafaji, Iraq, and in 1960 he was architect to the university's Tikal-Tikal archeological expedition to Guatemala. Bendiner served as the president for the Philadelphia Chapter of the AIA, and he was widely published in Atlantic Monthly and Harper's, as well as writing and illustrating books Music to My Eyes (1952), and Bendiner's Philadelphia (1964).
A gift of his wife Betty Bendiner and of the Alfred and Elizabeth Bendiner Foundation, the collection includes catalogs of memorial exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Philadelphia Museum of Art and thousands of drawings, paintings and lithographs of travel scenes, sports cartoons, and caricatures of eminent musicians which appeared from 1938-64 in The Philadelphia Evening Bulletin.
