Earle D. Oakes Collection (347), architectural renderer, 1923-2011
For over 40 year, Earl Oakes, in partnership with his two bothers, produced architectural renderings of many of the major building projects in Philadelphia. After serving in the Army Air Force, Oakes studies architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his architectural rendering work, Early Oakes was an illustrator for tv shows, majic books and magazines.
The Earl Oakes collection contains color and black and white architectural renderings for many Philadelphi mid-century projects including Penn Center, Independence Mall, Mercantile Library and Society Hill redevelopment. Also included are design reference files, clipping, correspondence with architects and site photography.
