Lobell, Mimi
Mimi Lobell Collection (293), architect and scholar, 1942-2001
Mimi Lobell received her Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1966, afterwards working for prominent architecture offices like Kahn & Jacobs, Marcel Bruer and John Johansen. Lobell started teaching at the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York in 1972, becoming full-time in 1976, only the second woman at the School to receive a full-time appointment and tenure in 1986, and taught there until her death. Lobell was a second wave feminist, specifically interseted in feminine spirituality. Lobell is best known for her writings and lecture on feminen spirituality and wrote and lectured on feminie spirituality and her symbolic view of culture with her book Spatial Archetypes: The Hidden Patterns of Psyche and Civilization and in Heresies Magazine. The Mimi Lobell Collection contains material she collected throught her life, including notes from college courses, architecture school projects, work done in architectural offices, design projects, material from her teaching at Pratt Institute, and her many articles
